On October 14, 2006, an Advisory Board was established to oversee the
formation of the GCMBA. The Advisory Board convened several times
throughout the period of October 14, 2006 to March 22, 2007.  Each Advisory
Board meeting lasted two to three hours, and specific goals and action items
were identified by the members.  Two months after the Advisory Board was
created, the GCMBA held its first General Body Meeting on December 7, 2006.
Momentum was high and interest was strong at this initial meeting. Several
attorneys, judges, county attorneys and business persons were present to learn
about the newly formed bar association.  A newsletter was circulated,
committees were identified, and upcoming events were announced at the
meeting. Ronald Freeman, Jr. of Johnson and Freeman, LLC and former
president of the Gate City Bar Association was the guest speaker. Herman
Pennamon of Georgia Power Company, Benjamin Basewell of Wachovia Bank,
and Robbie Susan Moore of the Gwinnett County United Ebony Society were in
attendance and communicated their support for the association.
